This is the first part – Part A – of the essay. This task requires you to undertake some initial research and to plan the essay that you will write in response to the essay question that you have chosen. The topics for this task are in the Assessment for the Essay (Part 2B).

In the second part – Part B – you are required to write and submit the essay. These instructions relate to Part 2A of the assignment.

The purpose of the outline is to ensure you are researching and forming ideas which engage with the question. You will receive feedback that is intended to assist you in writing the essay for submission in Assessment Part 2B.

In the research essay that you will produce in Part 2B of this assignment, you will be required to develop a coherent argument in response to one of the prompts in the questions that have been set. This task – Part 2A – requires you to state what your argument will be, and to explain how you will develop that argument in the paper by providing an outline of the structure and content of the essay that you will write. See below for more detail on what is expected in demonstrating the development of your argument in Part 2A.

This subject is concerned with the Australian common law. Where you refer to cases and other legal authorities to support your analysis or illustrate points that you make in your essay, we expect this to be reflected in the material that you cite and rely upon in your essay – see also the research essay rubric (published in the Assessment section of the Canvas Modules page).

We will provide feedback on what you have submitted where it seems to us there is significant room for improvement, or where you appear to have misunderstood what the essay requires of you. This is intended to help you to produce a well-structured essay that presents a coherent argument, requires you to demonstrate that you have undertaken some initial research, and that you have done this using research databases that can be accessed through the University library.

The task is a hurdle requirement worth 0% of the final mark for the subject. You must satisfactorily complete this task to pass the course. Failure to do so will result in a grade of 49 for the course, irrespective of grades that you receive for other assessment tasks.

You will be required to resubmit this outline task if you do not complete each section of the form. You will be required to resubmit this form if it is incomplete or some part of it is unsatisfactory. You will be provided with information about what is required for re-submission. You will be provided with a further submission deadline of the revised outline.

You must submit the completed Submission Form, and two further documents which show a summary of your research effort.

- All parts of the Submission Form must be completed. Submit the form as a Word document. The word limit for the task is 1000 words. It is subject to Marking Code 2.

You must select the first 5 results returned by these searches, download them in a PDF document. You must indicate how you intend your essay to be structured and the content of the various sections of the essay.
