00:00hey friends welcome back to the channel 朋友们,欢迎回到频道!
00:01so what does it mean to make a given 那么给定的含义是什么?
00:02year the best year of your life and I 让今年成为你生命中最美好的一年
00:04think it's kind of three things firstly 我认为这主要有三个方面,首先
00:07it's that we are making progress towards 我们正在取得进展
00:09the things that truly matter to us 对我们来说真正重要的事情
00:10secondly that our life is broadly in 其次,我们的生活大体上是幸福的
00:12Balance so we're not screwing up one 保持平衡,以免搞砸一件事
00:14area of our life for the sake of another 为了另一个人而牺牲我们生活的一部分
00:16and thirdly that we are while working 我们正在工作时
00:18towards the things that matter to us we 对我们重要的事物上
00:19are managing to enjoy ourselves and kind 我们正在设法享受自己和善良
00:21of enjoying every day on its own Merit 享受每一天的本身价值
00:24rather than purely seeing it as a means 而不是仅仅将其视为一种手段
00:26to an end and so in this video I want to 到此为止,在这个视频中,我想
00:28go over three of my favorite me methods 检查我最喜欢的三个方法
00:30these are really simple methods you can 这些是非常简单的方法,你可以
00:31apply them whenever whether it's at the 无论何时应用它们,是否在
00:33start of the year or the middle of the 年初或年中
00:34year or the end of the year like 年或年底像
00:35literally whenever and it will help you
00:36move more towards making sure that this
00:38coming year is the actual best year of
00:40your life in terms of meaningfulness and
00:42balance and enjoyability as well all
00:44right so method number one is a really
00:45simple reflection exercise called The
00:47Wheel of Life and the idea here is that
00:49we want to split up life into a bunch of
00:51different components and then we rate
00:53our satisfaction with those different
00:54areas of life and so if you want to do
00:56this exercise you can do it on a piece
00:57of paper or you can do it on your phone
00:58I think a piece of paper is nice start
00:59by drawing a little circle that is your
01:01wheel and then you want to split it up
01:02into three segments and those three
01:04segments are for your work for your
01:05health and for your relationships so now
01:07you have a wheel with 3/3 now you want
01:09to split up each of the thirds into
01:11three segments each so at this point
01:12you've got a wheel with nine segments if
01:14you don't want to do it on paper you
01:15don't have to it on paper you can just
01:15literally write down these different
01:16categories that I'm about to give you
01:18and so those categories are within
01:20Health we have three things and that is
01:21body mind and soul or you can call it
01:24physical health mental health spiritual
01:25health but I kind of like body mind and
01:27soul because it sounds more cute under
01:28relationships we've got romance family
01:31and friends and then under work we have
01:33Mission money and growth and you can
01:35call Mission your career or job or
01:37whatever you want to call it but that's
01:38kind of the main thing that you are
01:39doing for work okay so at this point
01:41we've split up life into these nine
01:42different components and the job now is
01:44that we want to rate on a scale from 0
01:46to 10 how aligned we feel in each of
01:50these different areas of our life and by
01:52aligned I mean my actions in the here
01:54and now are consistent with where I
01:56think I would like to be you can sort of
01:57think of this as how satisfied am I with
01:59this area of life I prefer to think of
02:01it as alignment rather than satisfaction
02:03because like I don't know you might be a
02:05three out of 10 in terms of satisfaction
02:07with money because you're not yet a I
02:08don't know millionaire in passive income
02:10or whatever the thing might be but you
02:11might be a 10 out of 10 in alignment
02:13because you are taking the actions
02:15necessary to get to where you want to be
02:17and so with this little diagram on
02:18screen I would encourage you to pause
02:19the video now genuinely please pause the
02:21video and just think about what would
02:23your rating out of 10 be for each of
02:25these different areas of life and I
02:27guarantee that if you just pause this
02:28video and think about it you will come
02:29up with with some interesting insights
02:31into your life and this is genuinely a
02:32good use of your time while you're
02:33watching Youtube right now and just
02:35pause the video and really think about
02:36this now these are the ratings that I
02:37gave myself when I did this exercise a
02:39few days ago and the cool thing is is
02:40that if you are doing this on pen and
02:41paper then you can shade in the Little
02:43Wheel of life based on what your numbers
02:45are so if you got a 10 out of 10 you
02:46would fully shade in that particular
02:47segment of the wheel if you got a five
02:49you would half shade it in you get the
02:51idea and you end up with this sort of
02:53FIFA esque radar chart of like these
02:56different aspects of your life which I
02:57think is pretty cool now once you've
02:58done that we're going to add one one
03:00final category which I don't put as part
03:01of the wheel I sort of put it off to the
03:03side or underneath the wheel if I'm
03:05doing it on pen and paper and that is
03:06the category for Joy how aligned do you
03:09feel with your actions in the hero now
03:10compared to where you want to be in
03:11terms of the amount of joy you are
03:13experiencing in your life and for me
03:15right now that is probably a six out of
03:1710 now this is great because the whole
03:19point is to help make this next year the
03:21best year of our life and so in theory
03:23if we were able to get to a point where
03:25we were let's say 10 out of 10 across
03:27all these different areas that would
03:28mean that we are doing the things that
03:30are most meaningful to us and actually
03:31making progress towards them and we're
03:33also in balance with all the different
03:34areas of our life because broadly these
03:3610 roughly cover pretty much every area
03:38of life and hopefully we are also
03:40enjoying the journey along the way
03:41especially if we have a 10 out of 10 on
03:42the joy front too so this is pretty cool
03:44right it means we have now created a
03:46clear sense of where we are right now
03:47and then we can get a sense of where we
03:49would like to be in terms of where we
03:50would like these numbers to go and
03:52whenever you have a sense of where you
03:53are now and where you want to be that is
03:55what creates what we call goals and part
03:56of making this year the best year of
03:58your life is to be able to then make
03:59progress ress towards those goals and
04:01this is already a really good start
04:02because a lot of people want to be more
04:03productive but they don't even take an
04:05inventory of their life because they
04:07just think of productivity as being just
04:08about work or just about hustle or grind
04:10or whatever but actually at least the
04:12way I think about it productivity is
04:13using our time in a way that's
04:15intentional and effective and enjoyable
04:16and that is kind of the message of my
04:17book feel good productivity at this
04:19point it is worth highlighting or
04:20underlining or circling or whatever in
04:22each of these different areas in work
04:24and health and relationships what is the
04:25one that really stands out to you as
04:27needing some amount of work so for
04:29example for me in the relationships
04:30column I've given my friends category a
04:32four out of 10 because I just don't see
04:33my friends very often and so that's one
04:35that clearly for me needs some work and
04:37so I'd be cycling that within Health
04:38I've given my soul category of 4 out of
04:4010 but I mean I'm not overly concerned
04:41about that I am concerned about the
04:43body/ physical health being just a 5 out
04:45of 10 so I'm going to circle that
04:46because that's something I want to
04:47actively work on and then on the work
04:48front I'm pretty blessed to be a 9 out
04:50of 10 on Mission and money but I'm only
04:51a 7 out of 10 for growth and so I want
04:53to Circle that one because I feel like I
04:54could do with some more growth in my
04:56life but once you know how to do The
04:57Wheel of Life you can actually just do
04:58this whenever you you feel like your
05:00life is somewhat misaligned or you're
05:01not really sure where you're going or
05:02you feel a bit burnt out you feel a bit
05:04stressed it it literally takes 30
05:05seconds to just bring up these different
05:079 to 10 categories and to just rate
05:09yourself out of 10 on each one and
05:10that's not to beat yourself up you're
05:11not like oh my God I'm flagala myself
05:13because I only gave myself a three out
05:15of 10 this is a pure solid inventory of
05:17where you are in these different areas
05:18of life and then the great news is you
05:20can then start taking actions towards
05:21remedying certain of these areas now if
05:23you've been wondering why my money
05:24component on this Wheel of Life is a 9
05:26out of 10 that is because a I've been
05:27running my business over for over s
05:29years now and B I have been investing my
05:31money throughout that time and if you
05:32interested in investing your money then
05:34you might like to check out trading 212
05:35who are very kindly sponsoring this
05:37video trading 212 is a fantastic app
05:39that lets you invest in stocks and
05:40shares and funds in a very easy and
05:42commission free fashion and they've got
05:44a bunch of features which are super
05:45helpful which is why I personally use
05:46trading 212 to manage a portion of my
05:48portfolio so firstly they've got a
05:49really nice pies feature pies are really
05:51cool because what you can do is there's
05:52people all around the world who are
05:54professionals or superint Investments
05:56and stuff and what they do is that they
05:58create a pi which is which is basically
05:59a basket of stocks and shares and funds
06:02and then you can browse all the
06:03different pies and you can see how
06:04they've performed over time now
06:05obviously the thing that most people
06:06recommend when it comes to investing is
06:08to invest in Diversified index funds
06:10like the S&P 500 which you can also do
06:11with trading 2 on2 but if you're using a
06:13portion of your portfolio to be a bit
06:15more experimental like I like to do with
06:16like 5% of my portfolios so let's say
06:18you were investing1 into someone's p and
06:21that P had 50% allocation for Tesla and
06:2450% for Apple it would mean £50 gets
06:26invested in Tesla £50 gets invested in
06:28apple and you can also create your own
06:29pie with your own asset allocation and
06:31share it on the app if you want they've
06:32also recently added support from
06:33multicurrency accounts which is super
06:35helpful if you're investing like I do in
06:37the US Stock Market you don't then get
06:38hit with foreign exchange fees and if
06:40you have an invest or an Isa account
06:41then trading 212 also gives you daily
06:43interest on your uninvested cash in
06:45pounds Euros or US dollars they are also
06:47highly highly reputable they've got over
06:4923,000 trust pilot reviews with an
06:52average rating of 4.6 Stars which is
06:54pretty insane now if any of that signs
06:55up your street and you would like to
06:56sign up then you can hit the link in the
06:57video description and if you use that
06:59link you will even get up to 00 in a
07:01totally free share so it's free money
07:03you might as well sign up so thank you
07:04so much trading 212 for sponsoring this
07:06video so that now brings us on to Method
07:08number two and that is what I call the
07:1012 Monon celebration and this is
07:12basically my preferred method for goal
07:13setting so setting goals is an important
07:15part of life there's a bunch of studies
07:16that show that people who set goals uh
07:18perform better and are more productive
07:20and feel happier with life than people
07:22who don't there are also a bunch of
07:23studies that show that people who write
07:25their goals down are more likely to
07:26achieve them than people who either have
07:28the goals and don't write them down or
07:29don't have the goals at all and so the
07:3012month celebration is just a very
07:32simple way of approaching goal setting
07:34and the exercise is simple in each of
07:36the Salient areas of your life ask
07:37yourself what would I like to be
07:39celebrating 12 months from now and
07:42really imagine this like imagine you
07:43sitting down having dinner with a friend
07:45of yours you guys are mutually kind of
07:47holding each other accountable and
07:48helping each other out and you're
07:49celebrating together you're really
07:50celebrating how much progress you've
07:52made in each of these different areas of
07:54your life now you can start with the
07:55three areas that you circled as being
07:57the most Salient or you can do it as as
07:59I would recommend for all 10 different
08:01areas of your life especially if you're
08:02doing this like at the start of the year
08:03as part of an annual planning thing
08:04you're asking yourself 12 months from
08:06now in each of these different areas
08:07what what would I like to be celebrating
08:09so for example for me in the physical
08:11health category because I've realized
08:12I've only rated it at 5 out of 10 I'm
08:13imagining I'm having dinner with let's
08:15say my friend Godwin who's pretty pretty
08:17jacked and we're celebrating how much
08:19progress I've made in the last 12 months
08:20in my physical health what is like
08:22genuinely what is the thing that I would
08:23love to be celebrating 12 months from
08:24now and then I'll come up with a few
08:25different candidate celebration options
08:27like you know a few a few different
08:28options for goals so I'd love to be
08:30celebrating having packed on loads of
08:31muscle I'd love to be celebrating
08:32getting more lean I'd love to be
08:34celebrating having consistently worked
08:36out let's say three times a week for the
08:37last 12 months I'd love to be
08:38celebrating becoming more flexible in
08:40Mobile I'd love to be celebrating having
08:41played Sports once or twice a week every
08:43week for the last 12 months so these are
08:45all different options but celebrating
08:47all of these is probably a bit much and
08:49so for each of these different
08:50categories once you've thought about
08:51like what would I love to be celebrating
08:53what I'd encourage you to do is to
08:54really boil it down to okay cool I would
08:57like to be celebrating all these five 10
08:59different different things but if I had
09:00to boil it down to just one thing and I
09:02could only celebrate one thing what
09:04would that one thing be because
09:06generally having a single goal to work
09:08towards helps the brain focus it helps
09:10the entire kind of physiology and our
09:12habits and everything just move in that
09:14One Direction whereas if I was trying to
09:16build more muscle and also get lean and
09:18also play sports and also be more
09:19flexible it's like there's a lot of it
09:21it becomes very overwhelming and very
09:22complicated very quickly and I'm all
09:24about Simplicity here so starting with
09:26what is the one goal what is the one
09:27thing you would like to be celebrating
09:29and so for me in the physical health
09:30front I realized that the one thing I
09:32would love to be celebrating is to
09:33reduce my reduce the amount of my
09:36visceral abdominal fat that I have done
09:37a couple of Dexter scans recently I
09:39found that I've got quite a lot of fat
09:40around the belly thanks to my poor
09:41genetics and poor diet and visceral
09:43adapost tissue is the thing that
09:44correlates with all these negative
09:45Health outcomes like cardiovascular
09:47disease and stroke and all the bad stuff
09:48and so if I can get that number down if
09:50I can reduce the amount of fat in my
09:51belly thanks to my poor diet and my poor
09:53genetics and that would be a great thing
09:55worth celebrating and then all the other
09:57stuff like getting more muscle and
09:58becoming more mobile and like playing
09:59sports all of that kind of stuff is the
10:01cherry on top it's the bonus and so you
10:03can do this 12 month celebration thing
10:05with the different areas of your life
10:06and that then creates goals now a couple
10:09of extra points when it comes to the
10:1012mon Celebration one line that I really
10:13like adding to the end of any goal that
10:15I set it's actually a trick I got from
10:16my friend dicki Bush who is a fellow
10:18internet entrepreneur and that is
10:20whenever you set a goal just add a few
10:22words to the end of that goal which is
10:25while enjoying every step along the way
10:27so if we use this health example again
10:28you know my well month celebration is to
10:30reduce my visceral adpost issues to I.E
10:32become more lean but I would add the
10:33phrase while enjoying every step along
10:35the way and that means that instead of
10:36just thinking of it as this goal that
10:37I'm fixated on that I'm going to kind of
10:39grind to get towards it just helps my
10:41mind think in a little bit more of a
10:43light Feelgood productivity kind of way
10:45a little bit more of an adventurous way
10:46of like how do I get lean but while also
10:49enjoying every step along the way and
10:50then tip number two for the 12 month
10:52celebration is please write this down
10:54somewhere so I have a Google doc that I
10:55use with my CEO coach his name is Eric
10:57and we look at the Google Doc every
10:59every quarter and we've written down
11:00what are my goals for each of the
11:01different areas of my life and then
11:03every quarter every 3 months we'll
11:04figure out okay cool for each of these
11:05different areas what can what can we
11:07make tangible progress on in the next 90
11:09days and this is super helpful because
11:11if you think about these goals and you
11:12make them in your mind but you don't
11:13write them down and then you don't look
11:15at that document ever again then it just
11:17means you're going to forget what goals
11:19you set at the start of the year and
11:20this is a big part of why people
11:22struggle with New Year's resolutions CU
11:23they set all these goals they have all
11:24these like great intentions but then
11:26they don't have any sort of system for
11:28reviewing the go goals reflecting on it
11:30measuring their action and measuring
11:32their traction towards that particular
11:33goal and so if you're doing this
11:34exercise and I'd really recommend you do
11:36if you do care about making this year
11:37the best year of your life write the
11:39goal down somewhere put it in a Google
11:40doc bookmark it put it on your chrome
11:42bookmark bar whatever the thing might be
11:44just make it super easy to remind
11:46yourself about what your goals are and
11:48this is why things like weekly reviews
11:49and monthly reviews and quarterly
11:50reviews and all this sort of stuff like
11:52reviewing our life is such a big part of
11:54anyone's productivity system at least if
11:56they know anything about productivity
11:57and then the final tip I would recommend
11:58for the 12 month month celebration is
11:59bit of an optional extra but this is
12:01quite helpful when you've decided what
12:02you'd like to be celebrating 12 months
12:04from now with each of these different
12:05areas ask yourself why why is that
12:08particular thing important to you and
12:10it's useful to have the why also in that
12:12document where you have written down
12:13your goals because again you can just
12:15remind yourself about why this thing was
12:16important to you and so for me the why
12:18behind this visceral adapost thing is
12:20and this is what I've written down in my
12:21document because visceral adapost issue
12:23is the major thing that's going to lead
12:24to me dying early of cardiovascular and
12:26cerebral vascular disease it's a
12:27significant priority to get that number
12:28down and to keep it down building more
12:30muscle is mostly a vanity thing but
12:31reducing my abdominal fat is genuinely a
12:33health thing so I've written down for
12:34myself exactly why that particular goal
12:36is important to me and that's not to say
12:38you can't change these goals later in
12:39the year but at least if you have it
12:40written down and you have a clear why
12:42behind it it means that you're more
12:44likely to stay on that path that you
12:45decided for yourself was was going to be
12:47important we come to Method number three
12:49and this is where the rubber meets the
12:51road like you know with the reflection
12:53and goal setting and stuff we have kind
12:54of charted a course for where we want to
12:56go and now we need a system to ensure
12:58that we we actually make the time and
13:00the space to get there and now there's
13:02loads of different productivity systems
13:03for this I have a whole course that's
13:05coming out soon that's going to be about
13:06my field good productivity system you
13:07can read about strategies in the book as
13:08well but one really needle moving
13:11strategy I want to share in this video
13:12is something that's called the ideal
13:14week method and this has been one of the
13:15most game-changing time management
13:17techniques I've ever used and basically
13:18the idea is that you open up a blank
13:20Google Calendar and you call it your
13:22ideal Week calendar and you start off by
13:24blocking off the absolute Essentials in
13:25your life in terms of like when do you
13:26want to wake up so for example let's say
13:28every day I want to wake up at 7:00 a.m.
13:30I would put that into a block in the
13:31calendar let's say I want to sleep at
13:3310: p.m. I'd put that into a block in
13:34the calendar I'd be putting all these
13:36different blocks into my calendar and
13:37then that shows me how much time do I
13:39have left to play with so now you know
13:41those goals that we've just set in terms
13:42of the 12- month celebration in terms of
13:44these different areas of our life our
13:45job when doing the ideal week is we want
13:47to try and find time or not try we want
13:49to find time in our calendar every week
13:51to actually make time and to to take
13:54action on these specific things so let's
13:55say in the friends category I wanted to
13:57see my friends more often my 12 months
13:58celebration might be that I'm
13:59celebrating the fact that I saw my
14:02friends for a group dinner at least once
14:04a week in my ideal Week calendar I
14:06therefore need to have a block at least
14:07once a week for a group dinner with
14:08friends and that's the point of the
14:09ideal week it's like your ideal ordinary
14:12week it's you know if things are going
14:13according to plan roughly where are you
14:16spending your time and what are you
14:17blocking out time to do similarly on the
14:19health front my 12- month celebration is
14:20losing is becoming more lean and that
14:22means I need to have half an hour of day
14:23blocked into my ideal week for exercise
14:25every morning or every evening or
14:26whatever the thing might be and if you
14:28realize that you don't actually have
14:29time for a particular thing because
14:31you're busy with other areas of your
14:32life that's totally okay but that means
14:34you can change your goal you can change
14:36the 12 month celebration to reflect the
14:38time that you actually have one of the
14:39other big things that derails people is
14:41trying to be too perfectionistic and
14:43trying to do too much trying to say Hey
14:45you know I want to set this goal and
14:46this goal and this goal and this goal
14:47and then you look at your calendar and
14:48you realize you actually just physically
14:49don't have the time because you have a
14:50job or two or you have kids to look
14:52after or you have to commute to school
14:53or whatever the thing might be the thing
14:55I love about the ideal week method is
14:56that it forces us to get clarity on what
14:58what is actually important to us what is
15:00the time that we have for the things
15:02that we have to do and then what's the
15:03time that we can use on the things that
15:05we actually want to do and mostly you'll
15:06probably realize that this is less time
15:08than you thought you had which is great
15:09because it means you can start doing
15:10fewer things and you can cross some
15:12things off your 12mth celebration list
15:14maybe it's not a goal you want to work
15:15on for this year that's totally okay
15:17maybe you can work on it next year
15:18instead or when you have a little bit
15:20more time freed up in your life now if
