Following last year’s newsletters, titled “Summer of Champions”, the idea of creating this year’s batch even bigger and better haunted me. Would I be able to maintain the same level of expectation as the previous year? In fact, I wasn’t even worried about the Cadets’ participation, I knew they would rise to the challenge and provide the content. Trust me, all my insecurities came from me, the editor, alone. But I found comfort in the fact that the Cadets would provide the content.
Siguiendo las newsletters del año pasado, tituladas “Verano de Campeones”, la idea de crear la tanda de este año aún más grande y mejor me perseguía. ¿Podría mantener el mismo nivel de expectativa que el año anterior? De hecho, ni siquiera estaba preocupado por la participación de los Cadetes, sabía que se elevarían al desafío y proporcionarían el contenido. Créanme, todas mis inseguridades provenían de mí, el editor, solo. Pero encontré consuelo en el hecho de que los Cadetes proporcionarían el contenido.

Back in April, I started to think more seriously about these newsletters. What would they be called? I even consulted my parents, asking, “Hey, what would be a good newsletter name for the Keepers of the Covenant?” The comfort seeped in. Throughout their first year at the CFOT, I’ve witnessed incredible field interactions and heard firsthand the stories of God confirming their calling. It was hard to keep up with all the good! Therefore, as simple as it may seem, I couldn’t think of a more fitting name for these next four newsletters, representing the Summer Assignments of our Keepers of the Covenant. Please enjoy, “Keeping Up.”
En abril, comencé a pensar más seriamente sobre estas newsletters. ¿Cómo se llamarían? Incluso consulté a mis padres, preguntando: "Oigan, ¿cómo sería un buen nombre para la newsletter de los Guardianes del Pacto?" El consuelo se filtró. INTENTIONALITY
INTENCIONALIDAD
Over his first two weeks on Summer Assignment, Cadet Mario Dino shared valuable insights on the challenges of ministry in today’s fast-paced world. Everyone is always rushing, and how do we engage and evangelize with people who don’t have time to spare? The answer is intentionality. Defined as being deliberate or purposeful, the Keepers of the Covenant are learning about intentionality on the field, finding a genuine reason to engage.
Durante sus primeras dos semanas en la Asignación de Verano, el Cadete Mario Dino compartió valiosos conocimientos sobre los desafíos del ministerio en el mundo acelerado de hoy. Todos siempre están apurados, ¿y cómo nos involucramos y evangelizamos a personas que no tienen tiempo que perder? La respuesta es la intencionalidad. Definida como ser deliberado o con propósito, los Guardianes del Pacto están aprendiendo sobre intencionalidad en el campo, encontrando una razón genuina para involucrarse.

Cadet Hector Rivera shared his thoughts on the matter after hosting a brief but meaningful visit with a woman about her health and her son. He wrote, “You never know the impact it can have on a person’s life or those around them. Even on a busy day, there are others who need just five minutes of your time to receive a word of encouragement.” Both Cadet Mario and Cadet Hector effectively demonstrated the importance of engagement in their reports. Engagement doesn’t have to be lengthy; if it’s intentional and rooted in Christ, the Spirit can move.
El Cadete Héctor Rivera compartió sus pensamientos sobre el asunto después de organizar una breve pero significativa visita con una mujer sobre su salud y su hijo. Escribió: "Nunca sabes el impacto que puede tener en la vida de una persona o en quienes la rodean. Incluso en un día ajetreado, hay otros que necesitan solo cinco minutos de tu tiempo para recibir una palabra de aliento". TEACHABILITY

In Massillon, Ohio, Cadet Mykaella Morales is embracing her willingness to learn and grow. She recognizes the diversity within the territory, even within divisions, communities, and more. To truly excel as a Corps Officer, she must let go of her preconceived notions and embrace the uniqueness of each community and Corps congregation. Ultimately, she has learned that “being teachable is just as important as having experience.”
En Massillon, Ohio, la Cadete Mykaella Morales está abrazando su disposición para aprender y crecer. Reconoce la diversidad dentro del territorio, incluso dentro de divisiones, comunidades y más. Para verdaderamente destacarse como Oficial del Cuerpo, debe dejar atrás sus ideas preconcebidas y aceptar la singularidad de cada comunidad y congregación del Cuerpo. GENTLENESS

During his first two weeks on a summer assignment in New Brunswick, New Jersey, Cadet Omar Rivera shared wisdom from Proverbs 15:1 with a student. He emphasized the significance of gentleness and how it can diffuse difficult situations. As a Corps Officer, he must carefully consider his words, both in positive and challenging moments. He recalled a profound lesson from God: “Being kind and humble isn’t weak; it’s being very strong and wise!” Gentleness embodies power under control, and it’s a blessing that Cadet Omar has been able to share this insight on the field.
Durante sus primeras dos semanas en una asignación de verano en New Brunswick, New Jersey, el Cadete Omar Rivera compartió la sabiduría del Proverbios 15:1 con un estudiante. Él enfatizó la importancia de la gentileza y cómo esta puede desactivar situaciones difíciles. Como Oficial del Cuerpo, debe considerar cuidadosamente sus palabras, tanto en momentos positivos como desafiantes. In Newburgh, a corps within the Greater New York division, Cadet Delia Rojas spends her time at the Soup Kitchen, engaging with community members, and even learning how to pray for them beyond conventional verbal interactions. One day, she witnessed an intoxicated man enter the kitchen and felt compelled to offer him a prayer. She silently prayed, and a profound sense of the Spirit’s presence filled the moment. Reflecting on this experience, Cadet Delia explains, “I gained a deeper understanding of the concept of intercession—standing in the gap for those who may lack the strength to pray for themselves.” This encounter reminded her of Isaiah 61:1, which proclaims, “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives, and to release the prisoners from darkness.”

UNEXPECTED MOMENTS

One of the joys of witnessing the cadets embark on their Summer Assignment is listening to the unexpected encounters they have with themselves, the Lord, or their communities during their time on the field. While many cadets were mentioned in their first biweekly report submissions, Cadet Joshua Wesbee’s experience in Portland, Maine, resonates with many. As he settled into his lodging and waited for utilities to be set up, Cadet Joshua found ways to deepen his connection with the Lord through the serene surroundings of nature. This opportunity to disconnect allowed him to reflect on a newfound closeness to the Lord, as if he were immersed in the beauty of the creation, a sentiment many in the Eastern Territory share about the beauty of Maine.
Una de las alegrías de presenciar el inicio de la Asignación de Verano de los cadetes es escuchar los encuentros inesperados que tienen consigo mismos, con el Señor o con sus comunidades durante su tiempo en el campo. Si bien muchos cadetes fueron mencionados en sus primeras entregas de informes bisemanales, la experiencia de Cadet Joshua Wesbee en Portland, Maine, resuena con muchos. Further experiences to highlight include the seven Cadets who remained on the CFOT campus while their children completed the school year. They actively participated in various settings, including the Mission & Ministry Training Department, Spiritual Formation, the Home Office, and even local Corps like White Plains, Newburgh, and Spring Valley. These Cadets had the opportunity to “go behind the scenes” at the College, engaging in tasks that Officers and employees routinely perform. Although they couldn’t immediately join their Summer Assignment locations, the CFOT ensured they could start their assignments by interviewing social service clients, assisting at the Soup Kitchen, and working around the Corps to gain practical experience. As they embark on their locations, we eagerly anticipate their continued exploration of the joys of Summer Assignment across the territory.
Otras experiencias destacadas incluyen a los siete Cadetes que permanecieron en el campus del CFOT mientras sus hijos completaban el año escolar. Participaron activamente en diversos entornos, como el Departamento de Entrenamiento de Misión y Ministerio, Formación Espiritual, la Oficina Central y hasta en Cuerpos locales como White Plains, Newburgh y Spring Valley. Estos Cadetes tuvieron la oportunidad de "ver detrás de escena" en el Colegio, involucrándose en tareas que Oficiales y empleados realizan rutinariamente. MMT SPOTLIGHT

Another year brings a new cycle of appointment changes. We are thrilled to announce the arrival of three new officers to the Mission & Ministry Training Department, effective June 25, 2025. Joining our team this week include Major Alexis Castillo (Director of MMT), Major Lorena Castillo, and Captain Chakanaka Watch. We are overjoyed to have them join our efforts in supporting our Cadets as they grow in field ministry. Stay tuned for more updates from the MMT throughout the summer!
Otro año trae un nuevo ciclo de cambios en los nombramientos. Estamos encantados de anunciar la llegada de tres nuevos oficiales al Departamento de Formación de Misión y Ministerio, a partir del 25 de junio de 2025. Esta semana se unen a nuestro equipo el Mayor Alexis Castillo (Director de MMT), la Mayor Lorena Castillo y el Capitán Chakanaka Watch.
