“Mummy,” Sirius croaks, gray eyes gleaming with unshed tears. Walburga accidentally breaks several bones in Orion’s hand. “Mummy, help me, please help.”

The room smells horrid, Walburga absentmindedly notes as she rushes to her son. There’s an unmistakable scent of piss in the air that makes her want to gag. As she gets closer, she has to smother down her rage to keep from exploding.

Walburga bites the inside of her own cheeks to keep from screaming. Not at him, but at what happened to him. Her darling boy, the pride of their house, left to sit in his own waste. The gall of that -

This was supposed to be a short, cute kid-fic with a dash of murder (because House of Black), but it somehow spawned into $25\mathrm{k}+$$25\mathrm{k}+$25k+25 \mathrm{k}+ words, oops.

Technically, this is a prequel to grim omens in starlit skies, but since it contains some major spoilers for several plot points in that fic, I decided to keep it as Part 2.
