Demonstrating the impact of the addition teu-miles around the Cape, however, weekly capacity offered on the route has risen by a much smaller percentage. On 1 December 2023, a weekly average of 434,940 slots was offered on the Asia - Europe trade. When looking at the three major East West trades, the Transatlantic saw its fleet capacity fall 9.1%9.1 \% year-on-year. Interestingly, we saw a very steep increase in the capacity of liner services to and from Latin America. This includes both deepsea and regional loops, where 15%15 \% of the global fleet is now active. Albeit larger, the six ships follow the same general arrangement idea of earlier 'Grimaldi’ conros built by Fincantieri in Italy, by Uljanik Shipyard in Croatia, or indeed by HMD in Korea. While no major deals have been concluded, brokerage sources claim that several major projects are still being negotiated. Dredging in the first expansion phase of the Kiel Canal in Germany is nearing completion. In a recent update, the contractor Deme Group of Belgium stated that the first phase of dredging was almost finished with 1.10 million cbm of soil moved. Past 2030, and once the aforementioned projects are completed, the German Waterway Authorities intend to deepen the canal bed by 1.50 m .
