All products received by GECI must meet the requirements described in this procedure, regardless of whether they will be tested or not.

In order to ensure the safety of your products GECI reserves the right to verify compliance with these requirements not only in the manner described in this procedure but at any stage of the production and distribution process.

The models analyzed in chemical safety and children's chemical and mechanical safety (textiles, footwear and accessories) whose initial result (V1) is no pass, will be analyzed again when they are received at our destination centers, to verify that the reoperation carried out to obtain the final pass has been performed in production

In those cases in which styles obtain an INITIAL NO PASS, this result is extended to other styles of the same vendor purchased by GECI that may present the same non-conformity. Thus vendors must correct the detected non-conformity in the analysed style but also in other styles with features that may show the same failure1.

The supplier is the sole responsible for ensuring that the final product meets the safety and quality requirements. In case of incidents in the market, supplier will assume all costs resulting from them: product refunds or withdrawals from stores, possible claims from customers, etc.

In order to verify the fulfillment of the Technical Specifications and Safety Standard of the GECI items, the GECI Quality Department will make a selection of some styles and will communicate it to supplier by buyer or our sourcing offices. Only the selected styles must be sent under explicit request of GECI to the designated lab by GECI (Aitex), either directly from supplier or through the corresponding office. The selected styles must be sent to nominated lab entirely finished including sales packaging, if any, for example: home textile, underwear and in the specific case of women’s swimsuits they must be sent to lab with the crotchlining hygienic plastic.

If a model is selected for physical/mechanical testing and for child chemical/mechanical safety tests, both pass reports will be required before the merchandise can be delivered.

GECI will implement a control and monitoring programme for suppliers that must improve their results based on the analyses carried out each quarter, notifying the supplier in a timely manner via a “warning letter”. These letters may be sent out for two reasons

In this case, the supplier will be directly added to the control and monitoring programme, where 100% of the models purchased for GECI may be analysed, with a maximum limit of 50 in one year (starting from the end of the quarter that was evaluated). The models will be selected by the GECI quality department, and the cost of all the analyses, regardless of the results, will be paid for by the supplier

2-Due to the results of the analyses carried out. When the supplier has repeatedly obtained results below the criteria set by GECI, an extra control will be performed, where 100% of the models purchased for GECI may be analysed, with a maximum limit of 50 in one year (the quality department will inform the supplier of when the programme will begin)

In both cases, an evaluation of the results obtained will be carried out after one year. If the supplier obtains good results, they will switch to the normal GECI control programme

Regarding Physical-Mechanical requirements GECI has defined three different product categories (A, B y C) for the different brands. And has developed three levels of technical specifications. Each brand belongs to a level of A,B,C (check the attached GECI BRAND CLASSIFICATION-ABC), so the requirement of each test will be different depending on the classification of the brand.

Since the substances that make the difference between our previous Safety Standards A and B are going to be incorporated shortly by REACH, also adding another serie of substances that until now were not contemplated GECI has developed a single Chemical Safety Standard that includes Child Safety Mechanics and the labelling requirements for textile, footwear and accessories.

In order to verify the fulfillment of the GECI Safety Standard of the GECI items, the selected style must be sent under explicit request of GECI to Aitex

Samples are taken to verify compliance with GECI requirements and we can take it in PPT (Pre-production) or PST (pre-shipment, before shipment of the manufactured goods) for doing the test required.

In cases where the quality department requests a PST (Pre Shipment Test), an inspector will collect the samples for analysis directly from production.

The supplier shall include the composition pictograms in the sample that is sent to the laboratory.

Exception: For those styles having little material for testing (such as sandals) it is recommended to send 2 pairs. These cases must be assessed by the supplier in order to avoid incomplete analysis due to lack of samples material.

Children's garments (0-36 months) that have small elements (buttons, snaps, etc.) and which are only selected for the small element traction test. As many samples as necessary shall be sent to ensure the analysis of 5 elements

Example: Garment with 10 buttons: the supplier will send 1 sample

For children's garments (0-36 months) with small items (buttons, snaps, etc.), as many samples as necessary shall be collected to ensure the analysis of 5 items. For example, for a garment with one button, a total of 5 samples will be sent.

If, in addition to the ultraviolet control, it was selected for chemical and physical mechanics, 3 garments would be sent, plus the components detailed above.

If there is any doubt about the number of samples to be collected for PST, contact with the office.

The supplier must send an application form (A printed copy) fulfilled and sent always together with the materials to be tested. The composition label has to be included also (It could be an artwork).

The supplier has to also send the application form fulfilled to Aitex by email (Find in the application form the email address that will change depending on the GECI office)

Once items have been tested:

If they meet the specifications required by GECI, then production can be continued.

If they don´t meet the specifications required by GECI, then supplier has to rework the production in order to make it conform to GECI requirements.

The cost of these tests will be paid by GECI.

The application form attached in point 4.3, must be fulfilled and sent always together with the materials to be tested.

Depending on the tests results, the process flow, Vers. 5, to be followed is the next:

GECI will assume the costs of these tests as long as the products meet the requirements of our Safety Standard. On the contrary, report result NO PASS or L&C NO PASS, supplier will pay to our designed lab the tests, and later, all costs will be directly charged to supplier until the PASS qualification is obtained, included the first test, as well as all the procedure´s cost derived from the initial NO PASS, or L&C NO PASS result, for example the sample’s picking cost. These expenses could be compensating of the credits that the supplier holds against EL CORTE INGLES group.

From 1st June,2024 the price for the safety standard will be €326.40 with additional 51€ for each retest.
