Creality CR-Scan Otter/Raptor Official Group

This is actually a modded version of a frankenrig I created a year or so ago for another scanning combo, so I had the frame already lying around.

The Otter attaches via a quick release - I chose to mount it inside rather than outside the frame for extra compactness and some protection - you just swivel the view 180 degrees in Creality Scan.

Talking of which, the mini PC is a Lenovo Legion Go (minus the controllers of course!) running Win11. 16GB on board RAM... a little low but it's good for 5001 frames before you get your memory warning. Obviously you can push it a bit further.

512GB internal SSD storage, plus another 512GB MicroSD card running at around 190GB/s (the most affordable bang for buck). The internal SSD can actually be upgraded to 2TB, as can the MicroSD.

Runs at around 12-15fps, which is the same as the closest all-in-one competition, and I've had zero tracking issues with it, plus it's actually nice to throttle the fps as a) you don't hit the limit so quick and b) there's half as much to process!

Two wrist straps so I can use it ambidextrously. I often like to have a hand free to reposition things, move obstacles out of the way etc. and it's easy to slip a hand in and out of the straps.

There's a couple of cold shoe mounts up top that I may mount a couple of oblong LEDs in if I want to capture better texture - still have to experiment with that.

It *is* pretty heavy (2.5kg with the battery pack, 2.15kg without it) but I don't find it unwieldy or cumbersome, but if you're a little susceptible to heavy kit you probably won't be using it single-handed.

As an added unforseen bonus, the power bank holder (which I'd originally intended to mount on its side but there was no room) acts as a really nice kickstand to tilt the unit forward to have the screen at a more comfortable angle on a table (I use a folding keyboard with it - details with the rest of the kit list below).

The only thing I'm not 100% happy with this that the screen pivots in the tablet holder if pushed from the edges, but you'd have to abuse it significantly for it to drop out - I stuck a small strip of velcro between the two anyway just for peace of mind!

The total cost for Otter scanner, mini PC and the rest of the rig is about £1500 - so about the same as the nearest all-in-one competition. True, you could pick up a Raptor for the same money, but you'd still need a laptop/PC to run it.
