Are you running shaders? No? Then I have absolutely no idea how the hell you managed to weigh down your GTX 1070 (the magnificent f*cking beast that it is) to the point the FPS got below 250.

It’s possible you have other programs open that are bogging your entire system down, but I’d honestly be concerned with how much malware that would actually take. Allocating a bit more RAM to your game wouldn’t hurt (up to about 6), but I don’t think it’d help much either.

My tip: start the game and launch Task Manager and expand it. Monitor the processes list to see what takes up the most CPU at any given time. If you have any GPU-monitoring programs, start one of those up, too.

Check temperatures, check ventilation, check for driver updates… all the standard maintenance stuff. If you still can’t see more than 300, you may want to stress test your card. There’s plenty of programs for this (some for free), and if your setup has any shortcomings, some of the stress testing programs are able to point them out. Who knows? Maybe your motherboard is causing it.

Stress testing is often described as ‘nerve-wracking’, but it’s unlikely the program will break anything. There’s often fail-safes in place to immediately stop the test if things reach critical levels (borderline blue-screen, pretty much). If you don’t want to stress test, benchmarking is pretty similar. It’s a smaller risk, and it may be all you need to see what’s going on.

To sum it up, you’ll just need to test different things and eliminate possibilities one by one. Standard troubleshooting.

Edit: People don’t seem to realize that when games utilize CPU, it’s rarely for visually rendered aspects. In order for the CPU (which is still a beast) to cause extreme frame loss in the hundreds, it’d take some insane logical calculations. What are you expecting this Minecrafter to do? Make Minecraft calculate the square root of pi?

He said, and I quote: “[He] got around 200FPS only while walking.”

Walking! Doesn’t sound like calculating the square root of pi to me.

It’s also worth noting that other calculations in the game would bog down the CPU, such as mob AI, standard commands, entity count… The entities don’t even have to be visible to cause lag. Just being in loaded-chunk range of a huge mass of entities would cause it. But for his CPU? I’m sorry, but I find it hard to believe that in a natural Minecraft world, 8 hundred mobs would be engaging in all-out war somewhere hidden just out of his sight. As he’s walking.

Probably not the CPU. Regardless, if it really really gets your knickers in a twist, there are CPU stress tests he can try. Same level of risk as GPU stress tests.

To be honest I read the question and I LOLed.

200 FPS is more than enough for anyone, 800 is just barbaric overkill, you don’t need that many frames per second. I don’t think you can even notice the difference after a certain number (I’m guessing 200 can be that number).

But I think it is weird that you’re not getting that high of an FPS. Cause with those specs you probably should be, so here’s a few things that might help:

1- Check your FPS cap in the settings menu of the game.

2- Maybe the game is using integrated graphics. So when you start it up right click it and from the list click “Run with graphics processor” and choose your Nvidia gtx 1070.

200 does seem a bit on the low side….. although that is more than enough for the game, I have the same processor, same amount of RAM, a gtx 960M instead, but i can hit upwards to 500 fps with brightness on high, and render distance set to 12 instead of 16, although optifine may help significantly here. other settings i have also modified, but i can’t recall what. if i can remember to, i’ll screenshot it.

I just realised, after posting this a few days ago, that this is incredibly unhelpful.

So, first suggestion, make sure your gpu is actually doing the rendering. Sometimes, you need to set it in nvidia control panel.

Secondly, optifine. There is a setting which i forget if it is in vanilla minecraft as i am a modpack freak. It allows you to set a fps limit, drag it to the far right. In performance, make sure everything is at least on. Also have the core rendering setting on smooth, i find multi core to be clunky amd creates strange afterimages. Default is fine when debugging though.

With beautiful specs like those, you must either have one hell of a malware infestation, have the most computer intensive recording program in the world, or be running a couple metric tons of mods/shaders.

My first piece of advice would be to turn down your shaders and reduce your mods. If you’re running over 150 mods, well there’s your problem. If it’s your modpack, cut down everything that’s not essential. If you’re running a ton of mods and shaders, pick one. Turn off either your mods or your shaders. If your really want both, get some less intensive shaders or trim down your mods. To help with mods, allocate more RAM to java. If you’re running ridiculous shaders and mods, allocate up to 8GB. I don’t know what you’re doing to need that much, but sometimes you just want to push the limits of modding. Oh, also remove orespawn if you have it. The only other stuff in Minecraft you can do is turn down your render distance (turn it down to 8 chunks, unless you’re having a sniper battle you don’t need more) turn off VSync unless your monitor shows weird white bars/stripes/flashes when you do. Turn your particles to minimal, graphics to fast, etc etc. Make sure you install Optifine, because otherwise Minecraft only uses 1 CPU core. Optifine will let it use two, but won’t let you use the second one to its full potential. Still better than just one.

As far as your computer, do a virus scan. As other people have suggested, do some stress testing and/or benchmarking on your computer. Download a program to check your CPU temperature, and make sure it gets proper ventilation and cooling. Things to improve your general cooling:

  • If you’re using the stock cooling fan for your CPU, replace it with a better one.
  • Refresh your thermal paste. Buy some nice, potentially expensive, thermal paste that has been user reviewed and said to work very well.
  • Clean out dust, make sure all fans are functional and connected to power securely.
  • Add more fans to your computer case.
  • Make sure the input and output for air on your case get proper airflow.
  • Reduce the temperature threshold your computer parts must pass to put the fans into overdrive.

Other things to improve your computer:

  • Consider overclocking your CPU, at least while using Minecraft. Make sure to be very careful, and only do this once you’ve done your research and know to take proper precautions.
  • Get a CPU with a faster clock speed. Increasing CPU clock speed can help Minecraft get over CPU bottlenecking with that monster GPU and a lot of RAM.
  • Get a less intensive recording program.
  • Close everything except your recording program and your game while you’re recording.

You're complaining about getting “only” 200 FPS? The human eye can't tell the difference beyond 60 FPS. 99.9% of computer screens can't even display more than 144. You should use the excess processing power for something that won't go to /dev/null, like doing math or finding aliens or running your own server. If you want more FPS anyway, here are a few tips:

  • Try OptiFine, a mod designed to improve performance.
  • Close or uninstall unneeded apps running in the background.
  • Use Game Booster to disable power-hogging services.
  • Buy a better graphics card and processor.
  • As a last resort, install Ubuntu alon

which version are you playing?

If its bedrock - its very difficult to and I don’t have the knowledge to. Use youtube. It is not a good idea tho since all the ram could be used up if you unlock your fps. But if you really want to go above 60fps to 120fps or 144fps, you need a compatible monitor that does 120hz or 144hz

Java - its in options -> FPS slider.

It is strange that you’re seeing such a low framerate compared to similar systems - but if it helps, I’d say that you’re hardware is probably doing more for you than simply pushing 200 frames in a second. Here’s what I mean - when I first got my lenovo laptop with a dual core i7 and nvidia 840m graphics, I was dissapointed to get 23 fps tops. I knew something was wrong, but didn’t know how to fix it. When I installed the shaders mod and cranked up the settings, I was very surprised to see my framerate drop to 21 fps… it made me realize that most of the frame time had nothing to do with the ren

When I installed the shaders mod and cranked up the settings, I was very surprised to see my framerate drop to 21 fps… it made me realize that most of the frame time had nothing to do with the rendering of the game.

I later discovered that this was a problem with my graphics driver attempting to optimise performance in fullscreen mode. It was an optimization gone horribly wrong, actually wasting a fixed 40 or 50 milliseconds every frame. To this day I still need to play minecraft in windowed mode, which gives me 80–120 fps at 1920x1066.

It’s not like you’re underclocking your graphics card - I seriously doubt there’s any sort of problem that could be slowing your GPU or CPU overall. I’ll bet it’s a simple error, like mine, which adds a fixed amount of time to every frame. Maybe you have a fixed 3 millisecond hiccup.

The point of all this is, it’s probably not as major of a performance issue as it looks. It’s not that you’re computer is 1/4 as powerful as those you saw in the videos. rather, it’s just as powerful, but with an arbitrary fps limit. A handbrake that’s stuck on, but who’s effects will become less pronounced as you increase the workload with mods and shaders - when it’s the rendering that takes the most time out of every frame.

This is just a theory of course.

I have only two recommendations really. First, if you aren’t using an HD resource pack, don’t give minecraft any more than 2Gb of memory! Java is notoriously bad at garbage collection, and often will get slower as you start to give it more ram to play with. In fact, unless you plan to use render distances above 16, you may as well leave it at 1Gb.

As has been mentioned in other answers, install optifine! It is the modern melding of two long-respected performance enhancing mods: optimine, which improved file handling/terrain loading, and optifog, which focused on graphics optimizations. Doubling or tripling your framerate with optifine is possible. although the most improvement is seen for older systems, it really improves performance everywhere. I get something like 20–30fps better with it installed.

Hope this helps!

Since you’ve played around with in-game settings, I’m assuming it has something to do with your graphics card software. (In my Minecraft Java I can set framerate lock)

I believe your problem is that you are using your Intel graphics card for gaming, as I had unwittingly done so before.

To fix this, you need to switch your games from running in Intel graphics to your dedicated GPU.

If you’re running AMD, I don’t know how to, search it up on your own (How to switch from Intel to AMD graphics card)

If you’re using Nvidia, read on.

For switching from Intel to Nvidia GPU, you’ll want to right-click on your desktop, and find the Nvidia control panel. Explore it and there should be Manage 3d Settings or Manage program settings or something along those lines.

(I’m not at my PC at the moment, so bear with me)

You’ll want to make sure that your GPU is used for running Minecraft, and whatever else you want.

I can’t describe the process, though I’m sure you’ll figure it out easily.

(If you manage to, ensure that the GPU runs on the Minecraft executable program, not the Minecraft Launcher)

Another possibility is that you’re not dedicating enough RAM. To do this you’ll need to fiddle around in the Launcher settings, however I can’t remember this clearly.

Search up ‘How to increase RAM usage for Minecraft’

Sorry I can’t remember all of it, but I hope you manage to solve your problem!

The Optifine mod let's Minecraft run more smoothly in general and adds a couple features that come in handy such as a zoom, in Vanilla Minecraft however the only thing you can really do is try for better internet

If your getting low FPS or some lag, it could mean your pc is not enough to run Minecraft. Or, your pc’s ram might be running low. At least 2GB free would be ok.
