Personal Reflection: This song was chosen (as my example) because it is an excellent example of themes related to conformity and obedience, as well as dissenting. I often find myself questioning some of the institutions and systemic structures in place in our day to day lives. Rage Against the Machine’s music often inspires resistance to social conformity and raises awareness about issues like racism, discrimination, and abuse of power. These are issues that are important to me and that I try to critically engage with, be involved in, and deconstruct as much as possible.
