It makes the project more relevant, becau the places we’re looking at are really the heart of climate action in the U.S. now. of course, there have been all sorts of rollbacks of environmental protections. In Catrin’s story about wild life crossings, she mentioned how federal funding was thrown these efforts are expanded. It hasn’t changed our reporting process, but it has cast a shadow over some of the projects that we will be writing about - about how they might expand or exist in some cases, and whether they can.

SECESSION DECREED BY SOVIET GEORGIA
苏联格鲁吉亚颁布分离令

April 10, 1991. The Parliament of the Republic of Georgia voted unanimously to declare independence from the Soviet Union the previous day, The Times reported. The action was timed to coincide with the second anniversary of the killing by Soviet troops of 21 people during protests for Georgia’s sovereignty. In December 1991, after the Soviet Union dissolved, Zviad Gamsakhurdia, the Georgian president, was deposed in a coup. Tensions throughout the ’ 90 s and 2000 s culminated in a brief war in 2008 with Russia, which backed the breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. in recent months, there have been frequent protests in Georgia’s capital, Tbilisi, over elections that kept in power the pro-Russian Georgian Dream party, which suspended the country’s European Union membership bid until 2028.

The Times’s Adam Satariano reported last week that X, Elon Musk’s social media platform, is likely to face a significant fine and orders to change its service in Europe for violating a new law designed to combat illegal content and disinformation. The investigation has already inflamed simmering disagreement between the United States and Europe over online speech. In the On Politics newsletter, Kate Conger asked Mr. Satariano to explain how things got to this point. Here is an edited excerpt from their conversation.
